Cape Ann is an outcropping of granite on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Known in reference to Cape Cod as the "other Cape", Cape Ann sticks perilously into the tempestuous North Atlantic Ocean, often pounded by merciless nor'easters and blizzards. Just to the north are the receding sandy plains of Wingaersheek Beach, Coffins Beach and Crane Beach as well as the Plum Island Sanctuary. To the south, the rocky coast continues down through Magnolia, Manchester and to the next out-cropping at Marblehead, half-way down the coast to Boston.
